On 14 July 2025, the Bernhard Nocht Institute for Tropical Medicine (BNITM) hosted the GIBACHT Biosecurity Symposium in Hamburg, Germany. This event brought together current and former fellows, partners, and colleagues from the GIBACHT network.
The symposium marked a key milestone: more than a decade of GIBACHT’s efforts to strengthen biosafety and biosecurity capacities in low- and middle-income countries. Participants reflected on the programme’s long-term impact through a diverse range of oral and poster presentations. Topics included national training initiatives, the integration of biosafety into academic curricula, policy development, field-based interventions during pandemics, and innovations such as gamified learning, predictive analytics, and One Health approaches.
The event underscored GIBACHT’s evolving role as a catalyst for capacity building, knowledge transfer, and cross-regional collaboration in global health security.
